Teaching and Learning – Micro Teaching Activity 16/3/20

Due to Covid-19, our micro teaching session was cancelled. Here is the lesson plan I had based on a sculpture that I created & exhibited in 2018:

Affirmations, 2018

Affirmations, 2018, displayed at Gallery at OXO

ARTEFACT:  ‘Affrirmations’ sculpture

AIM: Explore what messages artists are trying to communicate through their work.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify materials used in an artist’s piece of work.
  • Analyse & question materials used.
  • Examine different artistic interpretations of the same object.
  • Observational skills – how many elements are noticed?

Although this micro teaching session was only meant to be 8mins long, I was looking forward to seeing how a piece of work Had created myself would be interpreted by the class. The sculpture itself was created as a personal response to the ongoing racial, political and socioeconomic experience of black people in Britain. To be able to use such a ‘loaded’ and personal piece of work in my teaching practice would have been an interesting experience.
